On the 1st May 2015 the Queen's Royal Lancers amalgamated with the 9th / 12th Royal Lancers to form The Royal Lancers. As well as the Queen's Royal Lancers Museum in Thoresby there is a sister regimental Museum, the 9th / 12th Royal Lancers Museum, based in Derby.

On the 5th April 2017 Queen Elizabeth II, who is the Royal Lancers colonel-in-chief, renamed the cavalry regiment the "Royal Lancers ( Queen Elizabeths' Own )".
